SD Tobacco Control Program

Request for Application Decision Tool

This tool is intended to assist potential applicants in deciding which funding opportunity best fits their chosen tobacco prevention and cessation activities. Please note that approved curriculum programming funds can only be used for a facilitator stipend.

Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Request for Application (RFA)

  • Purpose:  To support local community and organization-based efforts to promote the implementation of the 2020-2025 SD-TCP State Plan by fostering collaboration among organizations across the state, investing in projects that address these goals by incorporating long-term change aimed at reducing the toll of tobacco use in South Dakota. 
  • Application Deadline: Applications open in January 2026 and close in March 2026
  • Award Amount: $30,000 funding max, $5,000 minimum
  • 14 awarded recipients in previous funding cycle
  • Workplan activities required in at least one of the following categories: Prevention, Cessation, and Tobacco Exposure
  • Encourages individualized workplans using evidence-based practices and techniques
  • Coverage area can be from organization-level to statewide
  •  Can be led by a single organization or coalition 
  • Provides extensive guidance in activity selection focusing on education, policies, and interventions
  • Scoring: most weight given to workplan and budget
  • RFA contract with the State of South Dakota
