ENROLL EASILY ONLINE Risks During Pregnancy
The Postpartum Program is an added layer of support available through the South Dakota QuitLine for pregnant women.
It’s designed to:
Help pregnant women quit tobacco or nicotine use
Provide extra relapse prevention support after delivery
Support women who quit on their own but want help staying quit
You may be eligible if you are pregnant and living in South Dakota, including:
This includes smoking, vaping, chewing, using nicotine pouches or other forms of nicotine use.
You’re encouraged to enroll in the full QuitLine phone coaching program, which includes:
As many as 8 scheduled phone coaching sessions
Extra support as needed
4 postpartum relapse prevention calls, scheduled:
About 2 weeks before your due date
15 days after delivery
45 days after delivery
90 days after delivery
A 7-month follow-up call after completing the full program
Depending on participation, some women may qualify for additional program incentives.
If relapse occurs at any point postpartum, the usual waiting period to re-enroll in SD QuitLine services is waived, allowing you to start regular coaching again right away.
If you’ve already quit tobacco or nicotine during pregnancy without using the QuitLine, you can still get help.
You may enroll in the Postpartum Program for relapse prevention support if:
You sign up while still pregnant
You enroll as many as 2 weeks before your due date
You don’t need to complete the full coaching program to receive postpartum relapse prevention calls—but enrollment during pregnancy is required to be eligible.
No—the Postpartum Program allows women who quit on their own to still access postpartum relapse prevention support, as long as they enroll while pregnant.
